Our firm was retained by an insurance adjuster to conduct a forensic investigation involving employee fraud. Specifically, it involved the quantification of funds misappropriated at a hotel operation.
Our role involved investigating the information presented by the insured to determine reasonability of the claimed loss. We reconciled various financial documents (i.e. daily sales summaries, monthly revenue spreadsheets, daily deposit slips, bank statements, journal entries and general ledgers). This involved understanding the internal controls over daily sales receipts handling for the hotel operations and quantifying the amount of the fraud.
