About
PrintCarmen Mencía Bastanchury is a Managing Director in MDD’s Madrid office and a member of the firm’s Disputes & Investigations practice. She specializes in financial analysis, economic damages quantification, business valuation, and the preparation of expert reports for litigation and arbitration proceedings. She also has extensive experience in fraud investigations and forensic accounting engagements.
With more than 26 years of professional experience, Carmen has advised corporations, financial institutions, and investment firms across a broad range of complex disputes involving commercial claims, shareholder disputes, post-acquisition matters, lost profits, business interruption losses and fraud investigations. Her industry experience includes construction, energy, oil and gas, manufacturing, financial services, retail, and automotive sectors.
Carmen has extensive experience serving as an expert in court proceedings and domestic and international arbitration matters. Throughout her career, she has prepared and signed more than 450 expert reports and has provided testimony in over 350 court and arbitration proceedings.
Her arbitration experience includes matters before the ICC, CIAM, CIMA, and leading arbitration institutions throughout Europe and Latin America. In addition to her client work, Carmen is a frequent speaker and author on topics related to expert evidence, economic damages, arbitration, and forensic accounting. She has presented at industry conferences and arbitration forums in Spain and Latin America and has published articles addressing expert testimony, cognitive bias in economic expert evidence, and the quantification of damages.
Carmen holds degrees in Business Administration and Law, as well as a Master’s degree in Access to the Legal Profession. She is a Chartered Economist, a member of the Registry of Forensic Economists (REFor), the Register of Accounting Experts (REC), the Madrid Bar Association, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and the Spanish Arbitration Club.
She has been recognized by Lexology Index, Leaders League, and Who’s Who Legal, which have highlighted her expertise and distinguished track record as an expert witness.
